More than ever
before, employers may find themselves being the subject of an I-9
audit conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). While
the number of audits has increased substantially in the past few
years around the country, it's important to ensure you have the
proper legal protection when your organization is being audited.
In its simplest
definition, the audit conducted by ICE examines the I-9 forms that
each company is required to complete for anyone they hire. Completing
the form also means that the employer has also reviewed the
background of a potential employee, including their eligibility to
work at that particular establishment. There are a number of
penalties that can result from a problematic audit, which can even
include firing workers on the spot.
